PRESS RELEASE: 215 SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE ONASSIS FOUNDATION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-2017

The Onassis Foundation proudly announces the completion of the evaluation phase for the scholarships approval for the academic year 2016-17, offering 215 scholarships to Greek and foreign students and scientists, for studies and research - both in Greece and abroad – across a wide range of scientific and artistic disciplines.

Consistently supporting its key role in the area of educational scholarships since 1978, the Onassis Foundation contributes this year to the vision of the honors students to achieve their dreams and release their potential.

Specifically, for the academic year 2016-17, the BoD of the Onassis Foundation approved:

• 103 scholarships for Greeks, for studies abroad, in 14 countries, worldwide

• 82 scholarships for Greeks, for studies in Greece

• 20 scholarships to foreign University Professors of all ranks and post-doctorate researchers, who, in the context of their scholarship in our country, will offer their knowhow to the Greek Academic Community through scientific seminars

• 10 scholarships to foreign Ph.D. candidates, for research in our country on subjects related to Greek civilization or to our society

Considering also this year’s scholarships, more than 6,700 students and scientists, with the support of the Onassis Foundation, have had - and still have – the opportunity to excel in their scientific filed, to create as artists, to give back to society and to build a successful career.

For 41 years, the Onassis Foundation, has selected Education and Culture – together with Health and Social Solidarity – as permanent activity pillars, serving with dedication its vision for releasing the potential of our society.

Its efforts focus on developing a brighter horizon for Greek students and scientists. With our support as a springboard, institutions, people and ideas help shape a better present and a more optimistic future for our country. Continuing this support is a commitment for the Onassis Foundation.

Regarding the Scholarships Program of Onassis Foundation

The Onassis Foundation established in 1978 the program of scholarships for Greeks, aiming to support them in post-graduate/doctorate studies abroad.

Since 1998, a new program has been gradually established, aiming to support scholars in post-graduate/doctorate studies in Greece as well, while, since 1995, an annual program of research grants and educational scholarships has been established, addressing foreign University Professors of all ranks and post-doctorate researchers, artists and Ph.D. candidates.
